A few weeks ago, I was asked by my school's 'Community Links'coordinator to organise an Indian event at Battledown (Cheltenham)- a school for disabled young children; many of whom have severe learning difficulties. Our aim was to raise awareness about Indian culture in a very simple yet fun way. So, I choreographed a short Bollywood dance item, which me and my friends performed for the children. But being a classical dancer at heart, I made sure there were some Bhartanatyam elements included in the piece! This was a big success, as many of the children started dancing along with us automatically! Other activities that we did with the children included painting and colouring pictures of saris and the Indian flag. I thoroughly enjoyed organising and taking part in the event; it was a highly rewarding experience that I will cherish. We will be doing a similar event at Oakwood School, after the Christmas Holidays.

(My school's name is "The Cheltenham Ladies' College" and I am in Year 12, 16 years old)
