Join us for a special workshop with the very talented dancer Devika Rao on Thursday 4th March 6:30pm-8:30pm at Kala Sangam, St Peter’s House, Bradford.

Devika will introduce us to the enthralling dance drama of Yakshagana, a rare and unique form of Indian folk theatre. With a recorded history spanning five centuries, this rich blend of music, forceful dance, improvised speech and gorgeous costumes is sure to thrill and delight. The session will explore the mythological tales of Lord Krishna and will bring alive the customs, traditions and heritage of ancient India.

Devika Rao started her training in Bharathanatyam, a classical Indian dance form, from Guru Vidhwan Sri. K. Chandra Shekara Navada in 1989. She now teaches Bharathanatyam, and has more than 15 years experience as a Yakshagana artist.

This series of events is part of Kala Milan, a new programme of talks, workshops, films and concerts hosted by Kala Sangam during February and March 2010. Kala Milan is Learning Revolution Transformation Fund project. There is sure to be something for everybody with our new workshops, demonstrations and performances. All the events are free and open for people of all ages, abilities, races, ethnicity and religious backgrounds and genders.

Places can be booked by emailing info@kalasangam.org or by calling (01274) 303340.
